The first goal of KM Quest™ is to learn and practice a (general) systematic approach to problem solving in the KM  domain. The KM Quest™ Knowledge Management model consists of four main phases, Focus, Organise, Implement, and Monitor. These four phases consist of several sub phases.

Knowledge about a systematic approach for problem solving is only useful when the task performer also possesses or acquires knowledge of the related concepts and principles.  Learning this conceptual knowledge is the second goal of the game.

Before and during the playing of the game use can be made of additional tools and resources that help you to truly learn while playing.  Guidance is provided by means of on-the-job training, just-in-time information, examples, monitoring tools, structured feedback and assignments. Collaboration with team mates is also important when learning to solve the  problems encountered during the course of the game.
